Amt Rickling

The Amt Rickling is situated in the north of the district Segeberg. Belonging to it are the communities:

Daldorf
Groß Kummerfeld
Heidmühlen
Latendorf
Rickling

The borough has a population of 6.683. With its size of 12.005ha, it is area wise one of the largest boroughs of the district.

The Amt of Rickling existed already at Prussians times. But it can't be compared with the present borough as the then-borough was more occupied with police work than self-governing matters of the borough affiliated communities. The then-borough belonged the communities Rickling (with Daldorf) and Fahrenbötel.

The present borough was founded on the 1st July 1948 based on the borough regulation from 1947. The communitiesRickling, Fehrenbtel and Heidmhlen belonged then to it. But the community Heidmhlen separated from the borough Rickling already on the 1st December 1948 by its own request to form together with the community Groenaspe a borough Amt Groenaspe. On the 1st April 1953 the village Daldorf separated fromthe communityRickling and formed again asbefore 1937 its independent community. But Daldorf stayed in the borough union Rickling. With effect from 1st January 1970 by its own request, the community Fehrenbtel was urbanised into the community Rickling. Even through this measure the borough borders didn't change.

In the course of the borough reform 1966 effective from the 1st April 1970 the community Heidmhlen was integrated in the borough Rickling after the borough Groenaspe was abolished. Nine months later, namely on the 1st January 1971, the communities Gro Kummerfeld and Latendorf were added to the borough Rickling after the community Gadeland was urbanised to the city of Neumnster and the borough Amt Boostedt with seat in Gadeland, to which the communities Gro Kummerfeld and Latendorf belonged until then was abolished.

The Amt Rickling is structurally a rural borough. It forms so an opposite to the towns Neumünster, Bad Segeberg and Wahlstedt as well as the industrial community Trappenkamp as it is situated betwen them. All five communities are located in scenic areas (Neumünsteraner and Segeberger Forst, Wild Park Trappenkamp, lowland region of Osterau, part of wooded and hilly areas Halloh, Daldorfer, Kuhlener and Sellbrooker moor as well as lowland region Schönmoor).
