Combining living and working

Kayhude was originally a place of the dairy-farm Heidkrug that belonged to the borough Borstel and was probably founded in the 14th century. The village got its name in the beginning of the 19th century and became a independent community in 1867.
Until roughly one hundred years ago Segeberg gypsum, bricks from Nahe, boulders, wood and peat were shipped on so called Alsterbcken on the Alster to Hamburg. Kayhude even had a small shipyard. Until the end of the 2nd World War the village consisted of mainly spread out small farms and only a few large farmsteads.

Today the village centre is formed by residential detached houses. Naherfurth and the area Heidkrügerfeld with the road to Bad Oldesloe have village character.
The communal life expresses itself in a charming community centre, kindergarten, fire brigade, a three-court tennis facility, event accommodations and doctor's surgery.
Along the playground runs a hiking path to Alster and further into the Rader Forest.
